The Nocturnal Ninja

A feeling of unease crept over her as she lay in bed during the early hours of Saturday morning.  All around her the room was dark but she started to discern shapes that she recognised as bedroom furniture as her eyes adjusted to the gloom.

Nothing appeared amiss but she couldn’t help feeling she was being watched.  She closed her eyes and willed herself back to sleep, but still she couldn’t shake the feeling of a presence, a subtle movement in the darkness.  Her eyes shot open once more; nothing.

She relaxed somewhat, telling herself she was being paranoid.  Slowly, slowly, sleep pulled her into its warm embrace and she succumbed to sweet slumber.

After what felt like a matter of minutes, she became aware of feeling overwhelmingly hot and cramped; something wasn’t right.  As she returned to full consciousness, she could sense a crushing pressure on her arm and pins and needles prickling her skin.  Her legs too were trapped under the covers and she panicked as she realised she lacked the room to turn herself onto her side.

A feeling of terror crept over her; there was someone other than her husband in the bed beside her.

Willing herself to stay calm and as still as possible, she gradually opened her eyes.  At first she could see nothing then suddenly there was a lightning quick movement.  The next thing she knew a heavy weight was squeezing the air out of her lungs, making her gasp for breath.

She wanted to scream but no sound would come out.  She tilted her head down so she could see the source of her suffocation.  Awful realisation dawned; it had happened just how they said it would..she was at the mercy of a skilled nocturnal ninja.

She had heard how once they made it into your bed, they were nearly impossible to remove.  She broke out into a cold sweat and began to shake uncontrollably.

She stared in numb horror as two bright, shining eyes met hers and rows of gleaming white teeth formed the mouth into a demonic grin.  ‘Tuddle, Mummy?’ 🙂
