Chasing Cars

Just thinking about famous romantic songs, sung by men about women, and trying to imagine my husband having those sentiments about me.

Aerosmith (from ‘I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing’) – I could stay awake, just to hear you breathing.’  He often stays awake, listening to my breathing, but usually because he says I’m snoring like Chewbacca and he has to shake the bed to get me to turn over.

Enrique Iglesias (from ‘Hero’) – Would you dance, if I asked you to dance?  Would you run and never look back?’  I think he’s more likely to ask me NOT to dance having seen me intoxicated and throwing shapes on numerous occasions.  And judging from my performance on ‘Just Dance’ on the Wii this weekend, he may well ‘run and never look back’, but it would be alone and from complete embarrassment.

U2 (from ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’) – ‘I have climbed the highest mountains.  I have run through the fields, only to be with you.’  He bought me a couple of halves of lager at our local nightclub and took me to the pictures in his Golf GTI when we first met, only to be with me.  Does that count?

Percy Sledge (from ‘When a Man Loves a Woman’) – ‘When a man loves a woman…she can do no wrong.‘  Thank you, Percy, that’s what I keep telling him.  ‘He’d give up all his comfort, sleep out in the rain, if she said that’s the way it ought to be’.  Yep, I can really see him going for that.

The Police (from ‘Ev’ry Little Thing She Does Is Magic’) – ‘Every little thing she does is magic, every thing she do just turns me on.‘  EVERY little thing, from clipping my toenails to burping – he loves ALL of it.

Snow Patrol (from ‘Chasing Cars’) – I love this song and it’s one of my all time favourites, but it’s obviously been written when couple are in the first flushes of their relationship.  I can just imagine what my response would be if my husband said to me, ‘Let’s waste time, chasing cars, around our heads.’  ‘Oh, what a great idea.  There’s washing to be done, the house is a pigsty and you want to lie there, wasting time.  Typical!’ 🙂
